Lilium "Stargazer" (the Stargazer lily) is a hybrid lily of the Oriental group. Oriental lilies are known for their fragrant perfume, blooming mid-to-late summer. Stargazers are easy to grow and do best in full sunlight. They have a fast growth rate and should be planted in full sun in well drained loamy or sandy soil. When mature, Stargazers can grow to a height of 36 inches with a spread of 12 to 16 inches with 4 to 5 flowers per stem.
Stargazer lilyThe Stargazer lily was created in 1978 by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder in California. Woodriff called the new cross "Stargazer," because the blooms faced towards the sky. Known for its striking white, red, and pink petals, and heavenly scent, this lily has become a favorite for many occasions.
The ASPCA reports this plant as being toxic to cats. They are said to cause vomiting, inappetence, lethargy, kidney failure, and even death. Cats are the only species known to be affected.
I have been taking photographs since my Mom gave me my first camera for my 16th birthday. Sure wish we'd had digital way back then. I have no formal training but people tell me I have a good eye. I enjoy taking photos of just about anything, but prefer landscapes and nature photography. I also enjoy using the available filters in Paint Shop Pro. Even Ansel Adams fiddled with his photos by using exacto knives and chemicals. :) If you would like wording added to any of these images, or a color image in black and white, or a black and white image in color, please send me an email through this site, and I will be very happy to customize for you. Thanks for viewing my work.

Thanks very much, Lenore, Alec and Ann. It took a pretty good while to get them isolated before adding the background. This is one of two plants in my garden that have bloomed this year. The other six were eaten by deer - they actually ate the leaves off of one plant that's near the driveway. Poor thing - it's just a stem. I'm wondering if it will grow again next year. All of the animals are very thirsty and hungry this year due to the drought and heat.

These are gorgeous, Kristin. The way you have picked up the flowers' colors in the background is perfect!
