Artist's Description
As I took a walk in Brooklyn in the Red Hook area, I stumbled across this tribute to seven firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11 that someone had etched into the wet concrete of a new sidewalk.
Located just outside the Red Hook, Brooklyn end of the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel, this firehouse was one of the first firehouses to respond to the September 11, 2001 attack on the WTC.
On that day Ladder 101 lost all seven men who answered that call. Their brothers from Engine 202, who also answered that call, were uninjured. Both the engine and ladder trucks were destroyed.
About Kristin Elmquist
I have been taking photographs since my Mom gave me my first camera for my 16th birthday. Sure wish we'd had digital way back then. I have no formal training but people tell me I have a good eye. I enjoy taking photos of just about anything, but prefer landscapes and nature photography. I also enjoy using the available filters in Paint Shop Pro. Even Ansel Adams fiddled with his photos by using exacto knives and chemicals. :) If you would like wording added to any of these images, or a color image in black and white, or a black and white image in color, please send me an email through this site, and I will be very happy to customize for you. Thanks for viewing my work.
