Description
The siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus) is an arboreal black-furred gibbon native to the forests of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The largest of the gibbons, the siamang can be twice the size of other gibbons, reaching 1 m in height, and weighing up to 14 kg. The siamang is the only species in the genus Symphalangus.

Many years ago, when I did not know any better, I had a job that required me to take a John boat and row across a narrow moat to a small island where a number of breeding pairs of these Gibbons lived, bringing with me fresh fruits and other foods; let’s just agree to say that they were occasionally a bit temperamental :-)

Yes, indeed, they can certainly be temperamental, making a lot of very loud noises with their diaphragms. :)
